Device-Free Game Night for Kids

Device-Free Game Night for Kids

Thank you Goliath Games for sponsoring this post. Pick up your favorite game today to enjoy the holiday season and beyond!

It’s holiday time!

While our schedules are jam-packed with tons of events, there always seems to be some downtime where we end up spending lots of time at home. Preparing fresh homemade holiday meals from scratch takes a lot of time and effort. This time requires some serious kitchen hours, and it can be stressful trying to get the kids to understand why we can’t go off on an adventure.

This year, I decided to host a “Game-giving” play date for the kids and a couple of their close friends. If we all have to be working hard, it may as well be in good company. The kids were able to play together and spend some one on one device-free time interacting with each other.

We kicked it off old-school by setting up five Goliath Games most popular games. Pop the Pig, Doggie Doo, Shark Bite, Catch the Fox, and Giggle Wiggle. No batteries, no screens! Just good ol’ fashion fun.

If you follow my blog you know I am an advocate for PLAY. The decline in play on a developing brain has far-reaching effects. Setting aside time to unplug and just play in a mixed-age setting is not only ideal, it is necessary. This sort of play requires conflict resolution and compassion. These age-appropriate Goliath Games all require the youngest player to take the first turn. This is excellent for teaching patience and compassion.

Each of the games had a fun element of surprise, it was fun to see their reaction and watch as they took part in a good chuckle. Creating an invitation to play by laying out all of the games allowed the kids to mingle and take turns.

Once they were done with sitting games, Giggle Wiggle encouraged them to get silly and do what kids do best, start moving! These games provided a gateway to a deeper imaginative play, and as adults, we were able to stand back and enjoy the show.

While the holiday can get busy, and messy, and… well, you know. We have to be mindful of how we spend even our “busy” time and remember to always make room for play.

Becoming a Disney Junkie One Step At a Time…

Becoming a Disney Junkie One Step At a Time…

This is a sponsored post. I have received free product compensation in order to facilitate my review. As always all opinions and obsessions with all things Disney are 100% my own. Affiliate links are included in this post, I’ll be compensated if someone clicks on an affiliate link and makes a purchase.

I’ve never made a secret of the fact that I was not a huge Disney lover growing up. Sure I’d seen all the classic Disney movies, but I was never the type of person who was “obsessed” with all things Mickey related. I never understood the adults who were infatuated with the Disney experience so much so that they were still visiting the theme parks (sans kids), or locating rare Disney memorabilia and shopping it up. I may have even scoffed at grown women who proclaimed themselves official Disney princesses (insert eye roll).

Then we had kids…

Disney Junkie Status

On our first trip to Disney we weren’t particularly impressed with the long lines and overpriced hot dogs. The boys were only two and three years old, and we’d gone to meet some family in town who were adamant about experiencing Disney. What else is there to do in Orlando, right? Fast forward just a few years when we experienced Disney on an entirely different level. We were invited to participate in the coveted Disney Social Media Moms Conference and experience all that Disney had to offer on the VIP level. Minds blown..

There is something about experiencing the Disney magic through the eyes of your child, it’s invigorating. Reminiscent of a time when everything was magical, your childhood.

We totally drank the kool-aid. In fact, the magic of the mouse was so intoxicating, we’d finally understood what the term “Disney Detox” meant once we returned home. All of the detail and wonder that is carefully placed into making this world so magical just rushes through your veins in such a way that normal life just doesn’t seem that exciting anymore. You find yourself planning your next Disney getaway before you’ve even hit I95.

Disney Junkie

One of the few ways we have been able to tame the Disney withdrawal is with injecting a bit of magic into our every day lives upon returning home. You can start by picking up small trinkets or souvenirs that will remind you of the fun you experienced (but not too much, it could send you spiraling into a Disney depression). I received the Disney collection on vinyl at the DSMMC and I would play it for a little ‘pick me up’ at home. The boys scored a captain’s hat on our recent Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Dream and they break it our every once in a while and pretend they are still cruising along the Atlantic Ocean.

KEEP Collective sells charm bracelets online with the entire Disney collection that is sure to please any Disney lover (or novice Disney Junkie). Their Disney collection is quite impressive with all of the classic Disney favorites including an updated Mickey peace sign! You can collect all of the charms and create a fun tradition for you and your little ones. The leather band is embossed with the classic Mickey ears adding just the right touch for any Disney lover.

Disney Junkies

We recently ordered a special KEEP Collective bracelet for my mom from the boys. She is planning a big move out-of-state and they wanted her to have something to remember them by. They’ve selected a single leather band with the Tree of Life charm and an single bar engraved with the words NANA. Their favorite name for my mom. I can’t wait to see her face when she opens it!

Summertime Prosecco Party + Fresh Cocktail Recipes

Summertime Prosecco Party + Fresh Cocktail Recipes

Spring is in full force and summer is just around the corner! I’ve been accumulating all of my must-try grilling recipes, I’ve even bought a few outdoor grilling cookbooks. I’m marking the pages away and preparing for a long hot summer outdoors. I’m also thinking of some creative ways I can create some fun new summer cocktails.

Prosecco Party

With summer berries and citrus in abundance all summer long, I thought I’d give some fresh cocktail recipes a try. We recently attended a local event that featured healthy green juice cocktails, and it got my wheels spinning! So I put together a few of my favorite fellas and decided to throw them a little garden party – man style of course! Prosecco and Cigar night was born – and enjoyed by all!

Prosecco Party

I don’t think there is a man on the planet that can resist the cool demeanor of Mr. Don Draper from the hit TV series, Mad Men. He made drinks like an Old Fashioned, or a Gimlet popular again. I went with this vain and decided to include one of my favorite bubbly’s, VOVETI Prosecco. Not everyone is into champagne and bubbly drinks just scream summertime to me, how about you? Prosecco has a crisp fresh taste with a tempered acidity and fresh, graceful profile that is unmistakable (and perfect for upping the yum factor on just about any cocktail).

Voveti Prosecco

Prosecco-rita

So we started out with the Prosecco-rita, a light twist on the classic margarita. VOVETI prosecco is dry and features fun flavors like pear, green apple, melon and ripe peach, making it the perfect addition for flavorful prosecco-ritas! This was an instant hit for the guys, the VOVETI kept it light and the fresh, and the fresh lime base didn’t leave anyone with that heavy feeling some syrups would have included.

 Prosecco Cocktails

I know what you’re thinking, Prosecco for a guys night? These fun twists on classic drinks were a welcomed surprise!

Next up was a fun Blackberry Prosecco-Fizz. This crisp and fruity blend was my favorite of the two. It’s simple adding only VOVETI Prosecco, a drop or two of Chambord, and a few blackberries. Add to this the magic of some bites like artisanal cheese, crackers, olives, and some delectable sweets and you’ve got yourself a summer fling.

Prosecco Party
If you feed them, they will come.

Prosecco Party

The guys ended the night with some fabulous dessert and some in-depth conversation on the importance of gelato. Hmmm… I guess we know what we’ll have dessert for the next prosecco party!
