October is slowly becoming one of my favorite months. Now that the boys are getting older I’m having a bit more fun preparing and decorating for Halloween. I’m spending more and more time preparing new and fun recipes for this spooktacular season. I take great joy in exploring all of the spooky sides to me that perhaps wouldn’t otherwise be expressed.
Putting together fun tablescapes that are easily created to anchor your Halloween party is so much fun to me. I often find it tough to stick to just one theme since there are so many fun ways to celebrate All Hallows Eve. Because I’ve spent a good chunk of my time keeping it kid-friendly the past few years, I’m excited to get a little creepier this year. The boys have a healthy attitude around these festivities, and as they grow they push the scare-factor up a bit more. This year I’m flirting with witches and monsters as opposed to the gruesome zombie brains and eyeballs of last year.
The new Canada Dry mini monster cans available at Walmart are perfect for this easy Monster Martini. Served in a martini glass with a few spider friends to accompany it makes it just the right amount of spooky for your Halloween party. Extra points if you can add some dry ice and really raise the creep-factor.
These mini monster cans are available at your local Walmart until October 31st. Their convenient size means they are perfect for easy placement in a cauldron or other decorative bowl on your tablescape. You can incorporate these mini monster cans into your recipes as well.
The Mini Broom Bites are a fun snack for the witch in your life. These light and fluffy cupcakes are made using 7UP mini monster cans and have the perfect moist pound cake consistency. That hint of lemon-lime pairs well with the airy, light consistency, of the vanilla buttercream frosting.
For this recipe you’ll need:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Whisk butter until creamy. Add sugar (1 cup at a time) mixing after each addition. Add eggs (1 at a time) mixing after each addition. Add butter and lemon extracts and mix together. Add flour (1 cup at a time) mixing well. Add 7UP, then mix together until combined. Pour into a greased muffin tin and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until stiff.
Add buttercream frosting and top with candy corns.
Mini monster cans are perfect for every Halloween party and right now, they have a special Snapchat Snap Code that unlocks a special Snapchat filter for 1 hour.
Scan the ghost icon on the cans by holding your phone (with Snapchat open) over the ghost icon. Press the ghost icon on your screen (this does not require a video or picture taken). This process unlocks the Snapchat geo filter for one hour!
Each year as I’m planning fun new recipes it begins to take on a life of its own. The creativity starts flowing and before you know it I’m dreaming up ideas for next year. I can’t wait to explore this holiday with my family over the next few years and share more fun recipes and party ideas.

** All products used in this post were purchased at Walmart. They have a huge selection of fun and affordable Halloween decor and supplies. It’s easy to get in the spirit of the season when you are able to stay within your budget. I hope you enjoy these cupcakes and fun Halloween theme as much as we did.
Holiday shopping is on overdrive and while the kids are all taken care of, they are old enough to pitch in on the buying. They won’t be purchasing anything, but they do have a say in what they would like to give family members individually. So I thought it was a great opportunity to really get them involved, so they too could experience the joy of giving.
I sat and had a conversation with them about it and they had plenty of thoughtful ideas for everyone on our list. Particularly their dad, whom they love an admire. We sat and they blew me away with how sweet and considerate their ideas were. We discussed all the ways we could make dad’s life more comforting and continue to support him daily.
My husband works long hours and spends even longer stretches on his feet. All of their recommendations were focused on things that could help him rest more, like new pillows. Or eat better, they thought that dad (a chocoholic) would like more chocolate. I was blown away at their thoughtful suggestions and how much deep thought they put into each idea.
We decided on taking care of dad with Hanes® FreshIQ™, T-shirts, and socks with advanced odor protection technology. The no-show socks are comfortable and will keep him cool while spending long hours on his feet. The new Fresh IQ shirts with X-Temp technology will keep him comfortable and dry all day long.
They were ecstatic to be able to wrap their gifts for dad, and I enjoyed watching their eyes light up as they personalized each gift with such detail.
Holiday cards are rushing to my mailbox as we speak. I love watching all of the different photo cards that come across with young faces growing each year. People take a lot of time preparing for these photos, and often put a lot of thought into the cards. If you’ve read my post on How To Get the Family Holiday Photos You Wants, then you know we took a lax approach and just enjoyed the experience together. But most times, families work hard and put a lot of effort into these cards. So I feel they should be displayed and enjoyed for everyone to see.
Growing up we would always tape the cards to a mantle or use them to frame a sweet cubby we had in our dining area. So when I had a place of my own, I struggled with an attractive way to feature our friends and family and put them on display tastefully. Until I came across this lovely fir wreath each year at my local Trader Joe’s.
I decided this was perfect for my entryway, with plenty of greenery to hang my photo cards. It’s a lovely addition that greets our guests and myself as soon as I walk in the front door. The fir gives off an intoxicating aroma as though to remind you the holidays are here, and invites you to see all of our nearest and dearest.
Each year we order our cards from Paper Culture. A company dedicated to giving back and making a real difference. If you’re anything like me and make conscious decisions about how / where to spend your money, look no further. For every purchase made, a tree is planted in your name. Or, in the name of someone you love, it’s your choice, so you decide. I’ve chosen to dedicate my tree each year to those who are no longer with us in remembrance. It’s my way of including them in our holiday celebration. Besides, who wouldn’t want to pass by this cutie pie on the way in?
There are plenty of occasions to celebrate with Paper Culture, not just Christmas. In an effort to counteract the paper they are using to print, they plant a tree in your honor and give while you receive. It’s the ultimate gesture and one we will always participate in. They have a very helpful website that is well equipped to walk you through the entire process. Paper Culture will also pre-print the return address on each of your envelopes, or print and send directly to your loved ones. It’s the perfect way to be sure your cards arrive just in the nick of time! You can even share directly to your social media pages so your friends and family can see a tree dedicated in their name. It takes personalization to a whole new level.
